![]() ![]() I recommend reading the book before the guide. Note that this guide, like all of the guides, may contain spoilers. This is a good book to read and savor on a wind swept beach, in a worn, comfortable chair, or hidden in a quiet nook in the library. While the novel often parallels a fairytale complete with a wicked stepmother, there is plenty of living emotion- love, hate, nostalgia, forgiveness- that are intertwined and offer launching points for discussion and connections to the reader’s life. I sat with them on the train from New York City and in the magical window seat in Maeve’s room. I sat with them in the car, with the windows rolled down conversing on the street in front of the Dutch House. ![]() Like all of the author’s novels that I have read, The Dutch House gave me time and space to sit with each character and hear their stories. ![]()
