![]() ![]() ![]() If you are stuck and don't know where to begin, below I have compiled an extensive list of some books I can highly recommend. As the child grows a bit older - to around the age of 2.5-3 years, you can start pointing to the words rather than the pictures as you read, to help your child grasp the connection between what the word on the page is, and what you are saying. This will help your child to make a connection between what you are saying, and the picture you point to. We all have busy schedules, but you should make the time in your schedule to read at least once a day to your child, include things such as sounding out specific words like 'dog' or 'truck' and pointing to the picture as you say it. When I was a little girl, my mom used to read to me every night, and she couldn't skip a page or I knew it. Not only does reading help the child to develop language and learn phonics, it stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world around them. I cannot stress enough the imortance of reading to your child from early on. ![]()
